I noted that Disk Warrior will not allow me to rebuild the directories on my system drive so I assume I’m to rebuild the directories of each drive connected at the time of the kernal panic. Is there a way to identify which drives were involved with the kernal panic or best to just rebuild directory of each drive.

Hi Michael,
While running DW to the HDs you will get more speed, what you need is stability in your system.
Run DW from the CD or any other bootable HD.
Its worth. I had the last Kernal Panic a couple of ears ago.

Michael,

Look at the manual, at least once. It clearly states that running DW on the system drive can only be accomplished by booting to the original DW disc.

The instructions are printed right on the DiskWarrior disc.

Yes, thank you, I edit better than I read instructions and have been blessed with trouble free system, till now. I can be very patient while editing for months at a time, but when it comes to trouble shooting I grow impatient quickly, I’ll work on that.

I wasn’t following the directions properly, I was attempting to use the DW installed on my system drive and since then I’ve pulled my DW Disk but my system will not reboot from the DW in my CD drive. I’ve tried Restarting and holding down the C key for at least 5-minutes with no luck. I’ve tried using SysPref Startup Disc and after waiting up to 10-min I get nothing but the white screen. Shall I wait longer for it boot from DW.

I’m using CD Rev. 41, I’ll spend some time at the Alsoft site and if anyone has a quick answer I appreciate it.

You can update it for free:

Have a look in the upper right corner: Free Diskwarrior 4 version 4.2 available for owners of DW 4.
You will be able to build a disc image for toasting a bootable DVD.

You’re not the only one… so no sweat.

It can take quite a while to load DW from the original disc. Hold down the “C” key until the Apple appears on-screen and just walk away for a while. Later, when it has loaded and you are able to run DW on your system drive, it will take a whole lot longer than you expect as well, so I also recommend just walking away. It just took 50-mins to run it on my system disk.

I’ve updated my DW per Rafael suggestion although I just realized I used a DVD instead of a CD although DW web site reported new disc is completed. After trying to boot from that disk, holding C while restarting, I still get the white screen and the apple logo never appears, or at least does not appear after 5 or 6 minutes.

Did I screw up with the DVD instead of CD? I have 2 DVD drives, does it matter if I use the top or bottom CD drive?

I’m heading to lunch and will try again to restart while holding the C key and if Apple Logo does not appear I’ll leave it sit thinking while at lunch.

I think the secret is to wait for the Apple musical “thingie” to sound off, then hold down “c,” and release when the Apple logo appears. If that doesn’t work then it’s possible you have some other issue.
