  • rendering WMV from Vegas Pro 9, memory issues

I’m an Editor who usually work on FCP or Avid on a Mac,
how ever, I have a producer client who has 4 half hour shows edited on Vegas Pro 9 on his computer which he needs to deliver to a network as WMV files. It’s a powerful PC and yet I keeps getting memory error messages when I try to render even one minute tests when all other applications are closed.
Are there any changes I should make in the preferences/properties?
Dynamic RAM Preview is already set to 0 with only one rendering thred.

    Computer details:
2×2.83 GHz Intel Xeon processors, 8GB memory (RAM), 64 bit operating system, Windows 7 Professional. I have rendered a few QuickTimes which were ok. I might just export everything as QuickTime and then convert to
WMV in a 3rd party software but I rather save me the trouble if the WMV rendering issue is fixable.
Any help is very much appreciated, looking forward to reading our input.

Make sure that you have Vegas Pro 9.0e (the latest update). WMV has been quite problematic in Vegas with memory issues. Are you using the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro? That will give you more memory to work with than the 32-bit version.

I was also going to suggest just rendering to uncompressed AVI and making the WMV in Microsoft’s Windows Media Encoder which is free. Do not render to QuickTime. Unlike on your Mac, QuickTime is not a native format to the PC and it has it’s own set of nasty problems like shifting the gamma of your video making it look washed out.
