Rendering to divx in vegas pro 9 64bit

I can’t reply to your question, only just HOW are you able to render to DivX from within Vegas? I can’t. I have to go to the external DivX writer?

Running VP9 32-bit.

That’s because the DivX codec does not have 64-bit support. You really need to run Vegas Pro 9.0 32-bit on your 64-bit machine if you expect compatibility with the rest of the world. Very few codecs and effects plug-ins have 64-bit support.

I can render to DivX 7 on my Vista 64 PC using Vegas Pro 9.0 32-bit without any problems. It’s a shame that 64-bit adoption has been so painfully slow. 🙁

You need to create a template for it. Since the DivX codec uses Video for Windows, it must be placed in an AVI container. The steps for doing this are:

1. Goto File | Render As…
2. Select Video for Windows (*.avi) as the File type
3. Press the Custom… button
4. Select the Video tab
5. Under Video format select the DivX 6.8.5 Codec
6. Press the Configure… button to configure the codec (optional)
7. Give the template a new name and press the diskette icon to save it
8. Press OK

Here is a picture of the codec options I have on my PC. Any codec you have installed like DivX, Huffyuv, Lagarith, etc. will be available to make a template for. I have highlighted my extra codecs in yellow below:

Then just use this render template and you can output DivX from within Vegas will all of the DivX options available under that Configure button.

John, thanks. I HAD been doing exactly that, for years with DivX and not getting anywhere. I have recently been doing the same procedure for the Larg CODEC. As it happens, I DON’T have the DivX 6.8xxx I DO have 6.7xxxx . So I went a bit further into this and found a greyed out selection of options and a big “Restore defaults” button! That did the trick. I now have DivX working from within Vegas.

Prior to this I was getting major error messages.

Thanks for the effort, but no dice. I know how to find the divx codec, the procedure you mentioned is exactly what i do on my xp machine. However, on my 64bit windows 7 machine. That option isn’t possible. the divx codec is not listed. Again, thanks for your reply!

Jon, I know… that answer was for Graham who happened to ask another question and is using XP. Sorry if I confused you.

Did you read my answer to your question? What you are trying to do is impossible because the DivX codec does not have 64-bit support. Use Vegas Pro 32-bit instead.

I did see that. Thank you. So, I wont have any problems installing the 32bit version of veas 9 on a 64bit machine? I tried to install vegas 7 and it wouldnt work. Also, I am assuming this will correct the problem with not being able to see the video stream of divx and other avi files when i try to import them in vegas….is that correct?

No, you shouldn’t have any problems. In fact, I don’t see how anyone can just use the 64-bit version because too many codecs and plug-ins don’t support 64-bit yet. The 32-bit version runs fine on a 64-bit OS. I have them both installed.

That’s because Vegas 7 doesn’t support Vista in general. It’s not a 32/64-bit thing.

Yes, that’s correct as long as those codecs are installed.
