  • rendering to 1920 x 480

This is a follow-up to my previous post, as I have not had any luck figuring out how to get a file rendered to the higher resolution, and then how to play it (or even if it is possible).

I have a matrix triplehead2go, with three monitors connected, and the resolution of the combined is set to 1920 x 480, which gives me 3 x (640*480) screens.

I would like to render a single file, at this 1920 x 480 resolution, and then play it back onto the three screen connected to the triplehead – but I cannot seem to get the file to play.

The steps I have taken are:

I am using VMS Platinum 9.0b.

    1. Set my project properties to be 1920 x 480

    2. When I go into render, I seem to have to choose ‘default template (uncompressed) to allow me change the frame size.

    3. I render the file as an avi. When the render is complete, and I check the file’s properties with mediainfo, it tells me the frame size is 1920 * 480 – here are the avi’s properties from mediainfo:

    Format : AVI
    Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave
    Format profile : OpenDML
    File size : 7.79 GiB
    Duration : 1mn 30s
Overall bit rate : 739 Mbps
    Movie name : Legends

    Video
    Format : RGB
    Codec ID : RGB
    Duration : 1mn 30s
    Bit rate : 737 Mbps
    Width : 1 920 pixels
    Height : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio : 4.000
    Frame rate : 25.000 fps
    Resolution : 32 bits
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 32.000
    Stream size : 7.78 GiB (100%)

    4. The file renders, but will not play in windows media player (presumably because of the frame size)

    So, my questions are:

    1. Does anybody know how I can playback a file with this framesize?

    2. Should I be using a different encoding mechanism (different codecs?)

    3. Has anybody got any experience with rendering files specifically for displaying on three screens connected to a triplehead20go?

    4. One concern is the file size – nearly 8gb for a video of duration of 90 seconds… Again, I am not sure if this is as a result of the frame size, the fact that I have used the default, uncompressed template…

    Many thanks,

    Stewart Bourke

The huge file size is due to rendering uncompressed. Try using WMV or MPEG4 which should allow any frame size you want for web video. If Windows Media Player won’t play it back, try VLC, but I just rendered a 1920×480 WMV file and WMP played it fine.

I sent you a video I made that does what you want. Did you try it?

    Danny,

Unfortunately I did not receive anything – maybe my anti-spamming description of my email address overdid it a bit..

    my addr is: stewartbourke@eircom.net

Many thanks for taking the time to do this..

    Danny,

Just wondering if you had had a chance to try resending the file? Is there a specific location I should check?

Again, many thanks for making the clip..

I sent it again to stewartbourke@eircom.net
It’s only 3 meg or so. If this doesn’t work I’ll try my Adrive account to sent it. Oh by the way, I got my Matrox card to play it across all 3 screens. Let me know if you get the video. Danny

Unfortunately it did not get here – my account as a 10mb-per-email limit, so that should be well within the size.

If it was convenient, I have an ftp server that you could put it up on – if you had an email address I could send the ftp details to that would be great – otherwise maybe your adrive location – whichever is more convenient for you.

    Many thanks,

    Danny,

Got the link – I am out all day today, and so will check it this evening when I get home.

    Many thanks again

    Danny,

I got the file, and whilst it plays on my machine, unfortunately it does not cover the three screens….

I have the matrox setup to present a 1920 x 480 screen. If I stretch WMP so that it covers the three displays, when I play the video, the image starts half-way across the LHS display, moves across the center one, and then stops half-way across the RHS one..

In your post, you mentioned you had got the display to cover the three screens – how did you setup your matrox.

Interestingly, if I render a 1920 x 480 in VMS I get the same behavior with my rendered video as i do with the one you sent me…

I am sure it is something I am doing wring…

Any pointers/suggestions would be much appreciated…

    Regards,

    Stewart Bourke
