  Rendering problem in 720p

  Hi!

  I’m working on a project for my school. It includes a few videos with no effects – several minutes in length -, a few videos with chroma key plugins applied – no more than 20 seconds in length – and a few segments of motion graphics. I chose to work in After Effcts because I wanted better control over transitions between segmentss so it is all composed in a single composition.
  I have running PC on Windows Vista Ultimate with 4 GB of RAM, two ATI graphics cards with 512 MB RAM each, a quad CPU and more than enough of disk space. The 3GB switch is also active.
  The problem comes up with the rendering process.
  For the sake of quality, I wanted to render the final project to an uncompressed AVI file, which would be approximately 14 GB in size.
  From there on I could compress to any other video container using Adobe Media Encoder.
  But nothing goes according to plan. Whenever I set the project to render, no matter which container is set on the output, the After Effects crashes in a matter of minutes. To avoid the problem of lack of RAM, I tried rendering audio only – which went well – and then single frame sequences to TIFF. The same problem comes up – AE freezes in a matter of minutes.

  What should/could I do to render the project properly? Any help would be appreciated.
