  • rendering out keyed section with alpha….so I can re-import

Posted by Michael Duff on October 31, 2005 at 10:08 pm

    Hi all,
I’ve got a job that requires a lot of keying, and compositing into a 2.5D world. I’m hoping to pull a good key, render out with an alpha, then re-import….so that hopefully my work speed is increased. Just wanting suggestions on the best method to render out the key. I know I need to use RGB+A, and I was thinking animation codec or uncompressed. But I don’t really understand the “straight” vs “premultiplied” bit.

    Any tips…..

It depends on where your movie is going after AE. Avids need straight alpha, but other apps can accept both. Straight is probably your best bet.

But … if opened in some apps, the edges can look really weird until you tell the app that the alpha is straight. Then it’s okay.

I’m re-importing in AE….just so that when I build the world around the character it will render quicker. So will try straight and see how it looks.

    Cheers
