I have been using Vegas 9 for some time now and still can not figure out what is probably something very simple: How do I render a film at 4:3 in the highest resolution possible? If I render in WMV 3 Mbps at 640×480, the format is right, but the picture quality is not good at all. How can I render in a higher quality without Vegas putting it into a Letterbox format? If I click “Stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox) it just stretches the picture. I am rendering a custom version of a trailer I am working on right now, but am looking for any help that might be out there.

    Thank you,
    Casey J Porter

I don’t believe the consumer version of Vegas allows for custom bit rates. This is a feature that is readily accessible in the pro version. I believe you are limited to the templates they give you. However, if you are wanting to render out to wmv, I believe you could download the trial version of Vegas 8pro and give it a whirl and produce a higher bitrate (better quality) wmv file.

Thanks for the quick answer. However, there are advanced setting and I am playing with those. I am not set on any one file type, whatever will get me the best looking results without putting it into Letterbox.
    Thanks Again,

Wheather it’s WMV, MPG, AVI, increasing the bitrate while leaving the resolution at 640 x 480 will improve the quality without changing the resolution or aspect ratio. Danny Hays

How I can I go about doing that?

    Thanks,

To do that, you would need the pro version of Vegas as this is not a feature implemented in the consumer versions.
