March 20, 2011 at 11:35 pmWhat version of Vegas are you using? Make sure it has the latest patches. What codecs do the AVI files use? Avoid formats like DivX and Xvid for editing. Also WMV is not a good format to edit. Try rendering to a different format. Do you still get an error? WMV has caused some problems. Try MP4 instead.

Vegas Pro 10c is the latest update. You can download updates from the Software Updates page of SonyMediaSoftware.com web site.

There are several free utilities that can give you this info. I like to use GSpot. Just open the file with it and it will tell you what codec it uses and if it’s installed.
Your error is when rendering. Are you sure that you have enough free space on the drive that you are rendering to? These are very difficult to debug when Vegas can’t give you a valid error message. 🙁
