Rendering in HD
So I know I asked about this before, but this time I solved the problem with the memory. I just added 2 GB a few hours ago and now have a total of 3 GB RAM. I tried rendering a project in HD – 2 minutes, 6 tracks, not many fx in my opinion but an error still appeared saying the system was low on memory. I thought 2 GB was required by vegas, now that it’s 3 it still doesn’t work?! I don’t understand, how much do I really need?

4-8GB of memory is bare minimum these days. Windows also uses a lot of memory. If you have only 2-3GB, it will be mostly used by Windows, and the O/S will be using the swap file on the hard disk a lot. Software requirements that are listed are usually a joke. They list the bare minimum it takes for the program to actually load up and run. That doesn’t take into account the usability of the program. To be safe, always double the memory that is listed. FYI…HD encoding requires a fast, modern CPU unless you have a long time to wait on every two minutes of video to finish rendering.

So… in other words there’s no way I can render my videos in HD unless I change the laptop I use. It’s got a 4GB limit, even if I wanted to I couldn’t add more. I can’t believe it, I just bought this for nothing! 😐

What version of Vegas are you using?
What operating system are you running? Is it 64 bit?
Is you C: drive getting full?
What are your RAM preview settings in Vegas?

I have Windows 7 32 bit and vegas pro 9, most likely 32 bit (I don’t know where to check that, but since I’m running a 32 bit OS I suppose I can’t have a 64 bit vegas…). C has enough free space for me, around 10 GB.
Hmm I’m not sure what you mean by RAM preview settings in vegas.
