I am rendering 4 hour 20 minuet video from vegas 9 to DVD A and then duplicating with a Primera Brovo Pro. This has worked fine until I found a problem in the edit and had to go back and re-render. Now brovo pro does not like the file and wont duplicate it. I can’t figure if I changed a switch in the rendering process or what else could be wrong. Any Ideas on what to check?

    Thanks Rob

4-hr, 20-min is quite long even for a 2-sided DVD. But you have left out your workflow, so there’s nothing for us to go on for a guess.

I Use Marks Bit Rate calculator to find the bit rate for a dual layer DVD, then set up V9 to render MainConcept mepeg2, setting the out put type to mepeg-2 and a variable bit rate specified by MBRc and 2pass. I don’t think I changed any thing in advanced video but I can’t tell. Include audio stream is unchecked. Save elementary as separate streams is checked. project is set to best.
This worked fine on a test DVD but after I changed a marker point in Vegas and re-rendered the Bravo pro puts the disk in the drive and spits it out with out doing anything to it, I have tried another project in memory and it duplicates. I am using Falcon media DVD+R DL 8x 8.5 GB media.

Using that brand could be your problem.
See if it’s on the list of recommended/supported media.
A friend with a Bravo duplicator uses only Verbatim dual-layer DVDs and doesn’t have any issues with them.

I did a test with last years project same length the falcon media worked fine. I will go back to Verbatim if I get excessive rejects. I ended up reloading Vegas9 and the updates. I think there was a problem in the set up of the DVD rendering, before re-installing one of the switches was at progressive not lower field first. the test worked fine will let you know tomorrow if full video doesn’t work.

    Thanks

One other question; is it necessary to do a 2 pass render when mastering a DL disk? I always have but what is the real difference in quality?

In the end the problem was when I used Marks Bit Rate I didn’t plug in a safety percentage. The Falcon media worked fine the Primera people had no objections to using it. My biggest problem is with the windows OS it has never been stable for me; it doesn’t matter which version.
