I have a 4 core (Q6600) computer. Lately it began to act up quiting randering AVCHD (from Canon HG10) at random times 10 to 30 minutes and just automatically restarting the computer. I thought it was Vegas but I re-enstalled PRO8c… still the same problem.

Then I thought it may be the CPU core temp getting high. I vacuumed the CPU cooler (it had a lot’s of lint) and reversed the other fan (from pulling air out to blowing air into the computer).
After that I was able to render 1.5 hours of AVCHD to MPG2 without any problems.

The reanson I am describing this, because I ran across several complaints (in this forum) about V8 quiting render.

So, on my axperience the hot CPU forces the computer to restart. To fix it make sure you have planty of CPU cooling.

Cleaning your computer on a regular basis is ALWAYS a good idea.
As you’ve discovered, dust bunnies can multiply at a very rapid pace 🙂
Grab a free utility called CoreTemp and run it periodically to keep an eye on things in between cleanings.

Thank you Mike for the CoreTemp suggestion it works well and it is free. Also shows the load on each processor. When V8 renders all four processors are 95-100 % engaged. With the Q6600, overclocked to 6.67 MHz, a 1.5 hour AVCHD to MPG2 takes 1.5 hours.
The core temp runs around 50-56 C, maximum for the Q6600 is 62C
