  • Render/Export Crash from ProGraphics plugin, linked to older bug???

First, let me say that any help would be phenomenal because I’m going on a full day of dealing with this and on a huge deadline.

Short version: FCP crashing on renders and on export intermittently (not related to any particular clip, doesn’t always happen same time, but it always happens – even if I take small clips). Message says could be caused by ProGraphics Plugin?

Long Version: I have an iMac with 3.06Ghz, 4GB Ram, and the NVIDEA GT 130 512MB in it and a 1TB Elephant 400mbit drive. I’ve opened an editors project file and applyied the Stabilize behavior in motion to approximately 85 clips, saved, come back into final cut and rendered them. They rendered fine when I was working on it, and the timeline played well. I did have a few lags and a couple times when I got green flashing in the viewer, but restarting always fixed it and I assumed it was just the limitations of doing this on an iMac (low budget show..).

Anyway, because I can’t give the project with the motion files back to the editors without a lot of reconnecting they don’t have time for I was going to export a Quicktime Movie of the track with all my clips on it for them to overlay over their project. However, this gets to about 50% and FCP crashes and says “Prographics plugin may have caused this”.

I’ve looked all over the net and nobody ever solved this, or wrote the solution if they did that I could find. It was said to be a bug back in 2008, and people said to reinstall the pro apps update 2007-02, but I’m way past that now… everything I have is up to date.

    Any ideas?

I just started having exactly the same problem. I’m trying to render the timeline and/or export a quicktime in ProRes (HQ), and it crashes every time. I get that message about it might be the ProGraphics plugin.

    Help!

I realize this is a month late, but I just had the same problem. I’m using a number of Motion clips in the timeline and when I tried to render or export it kept crashing with the same kind of error message. I solved it by first breaking the whole sequence into smaller sequences (cut and paste sections of the sequence’s timeline into new sequences). Next I placed in and out points a few seconds apart on the timeline and rendered tiny bits at a time. It took a long time, but it worked. Then, when I had it all rendered, I pasted it all back together on a new sequence timeline. It then exported without crashing. If it still crashes, I would suggest exporting each smaller sequence as QT movie file and then paste those together into a new timeline and export. I suspect that if I had exported my Motion files as QT movies directly from Motion and then imported them to Final Cut Pro, I probably wouldn’t have had the problem. I’ll try that next time.

Thanks! I’ve since come up with a number of similar solutions – no fix, but seems like a lot of workarounds have helped. Wondering if maybe with the new studio this problem has been fixed… would be worth getting it just for that if you’re working with a lot of motion..
