Rendered videos look awful once uploaded?
So, I’ve been doing a video game commentary series recently, and it’s important to me to have a very clear and visible video.
I use FRAPS to record source video in 1080 @ 30fps.I then go into Vegas Pro 10 and render out an MP4 (I’ve heard that it’s a good format for youtube) and the rendered video looks very good. Almost as good as the original uncompressed video.
My settings are: Sony AVC: 720p 30fps (same as source), bitrate of 20k, audio is 320k, entropy coding: CABAC, and “best” under project render settings and the rest is stock settings.Again, it looks great on my computer. The right lighting, nearly crystal clear etc. So, I upload it to youtube and when it finishes, it looks like a joke. Even waiting hours after youtube says it’s “ready” doesn’t help.
For some reason, youtube increases the contrast to an unwatchable level. I never adjust any of the settings within the youtube editor, as they are terrible. It also makes everything highly pixelated and ugly.I’ve tried H.264 rendered out with similar settings (though rendered in After Effects), as well as WMV and both do NOT have the contrast issue, but still look awful.

So, as you can see, of the two, H.264 looks the best, but still pretty terrible.
What in the heck am I doing wrong??

You could try these settings recommended for vimeo. I use the vimeo optimised settings and my youtube vids look fine. worth a shot:
