Why is it when I render photos and after effects projects (dynamically linked, usually with text) on the timeline they look like a thrown up bunch of pixelated mess?
It’s material that is red on the program line, I hit enter to render and the final product is stuff that looks awful

Whats the render codec set for?

When you do an export, does it still look bad?

I’ve also experienced this with Dynamically Linked After Effects comps.

Posted a comment about it here and didn’t really receive much of a response….

If i export it it looks fine. I’m not sure what codec I’m rendering in. Where would I check?

Look at your “sequence settings” this is where you specify your preview files codec.

Mine is set to I-Frame only MPEG. I see several options available. I’m going to select “1280x720p 29.97 custom” which is how this is shot and i’ll see if there’s any difference

FWIW i think this might be a Red related issue. Ive done lots of HD editing using the default MPEG I frame for Previews (rendering on the timeline) and never saw what you are describing.
