    Hi all,
I have searched extensively on this and other forums for an answer to this question and have not found one (it’s probably right under my nose).

I received a 3 hour long .wmv file that I need to split up into several 1 minute avi files. When I render the .avi files (35-45 seconds long), the file sizes are coming out to be about 230 MB per minute.

Is this normal? It seems awfully large. It’s not affecting my final product, I am just concerned that I may be doing something wrong. Where is all the extra information coming from?

    Thanks,
    venus light

    Standard DV-AVI is about 13Gig/hour.

I believe the math using jeditdvs figures comes out about right. Or at leastnot greatly out of norm.

The odds are that you have it set to uncompressed in your “render” dialogue. You want to make sure it’s set to DV avi.

    30 seconds uncompressed > 1.1 Gig
    30 seconds DV = 108 Meg

Should be about 216 Meg/minute using DV.
