  • Render Without Rendering Beauty Pass?

Posted by Mark Walczak on November 11, 2009 at 2:40 pm

    Hi everyone,

I know I’m not the only one with this problem, and I’m sorry if my post sounds rudimentary, but, is there a way to render only one pass (i.e. ONLY motion vectors, or ONLY specular) without rendering a beauty pass. C4D seems to like to render a beauty pass for everything. Even if this capability is not available within Cinema, has anyone written a script or anything that circumvents this situation?

    Thanks for everything in advance!

No, it’s not possible unfortunately. One workaround is to make a copy of your scene and delete everything that isn’t necessary for your render, e.g., lights and materials.

Dang. Is there any benefit to being forced to render out a beauty pass every time you render? I’m just trying to wrap my head around what Maxon is intending.

I know people have requested the ability not to render out the rgba image on many occasions, so my guess is that Maxon doesn’t allow for it because it would be hard to implement (i.e., would require a core rewrite of the render engine) and/or wouldn’t save much render time.

    Interesting. Thanks, Adam!
