    Hi

    I’ve got to export a movie with the following criteria and I just can’t get it to succeed:
    File type: MPEG-2 Video – Program Stream (MPEG-2v, long GOP, closed GOP, IBBPBBPBB)
    Fps: 25 – progressive
    Size: 1280×768 square pixels
    Bitrate: 9-12 Mbps (CBR)
    No audio
    to be delivered as *.MOV (???)

    I have made the comp as 25fps 1280×768 sq px
    Anyways.. I quickly gave up on exporting mpeg-2 in a mov container as I couldn’t find that option under “quicktime movie”.
    So I decided to try the MPEG-2…

    Every time I try to render (and I’ve tried so many different settings… it is so darn enigmatic) I get the same mumbojumbo error:

    After Effects: AEGP Plugin Media IO Plugin: There is a mismatch between Output Module settings and Transcode Settings. Please verify your settings and try again.
    Property Data Invalid!
    MediaIO2 Error: 0x400e0004
    Frame dimensions out of bounds
    ( 5027 :: 12 )

    I figured it might have to do with the size so I’ve tried telling the Output Module not to Stretch, but alas I get the same error.

    Any help is highly appreciated as my deadline is tomorrow :'(

    In the main Output Module my settings are:
    ——–
    Format: MPEG-2
    Post-Render Action: None
    checked off both boxes next to them (default)

    Video output:
    RGB, Millions, Premultiplied
    Checkmarked “Stretch” and set to 1280×768

    No checks in “Crop” and “Audio Output”
    ———

    In the “Format Options” I’ve set:
    Checked “Expport Video”
    Unchecked “Export Audio”

    Basic Video settings
    Quality: 5
    TV std: PAL
    fps: 25
    Field order: None (progr.)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square (1,000)
    Profile: main
    Level: main

    Bitrate Settings
    Bitrate enc: CBR
    Bitrate mbps: 12

    Gop settings (defaults)
    M frames: 3
    N frames: 12
    closed GOP: 0
    unchecked: auto-GOP

    Advanced (defaults inherited from the PAL preset)

    All else left untouched.

    I recently used Premiere Pro to export MPEG clips via Adobe Media Encoder and it works great!

    Color Grading presets for After Effects, Premiere, etc., plus free presets and more.

    Hi guys.
    Thank you very much for your responses.

    I ended up rendering the file in AE as a quicktime movie (Animation, Best quality, 25fps). Which by the way is default “lossless”.
    I then used Adobe Media Encoder which very smoothly exported as an m2v.
    Now it just has me wondering how it achieved making it only 14MB as the source was 120MB… It’s a 10 second clip so it might be just right though…
    I tested the m2v in VLC and it played smoothly.

    Had this same problem, MPEG2’s giving me an error upon trying to render .mov files with any dimensions outside the standard. The only work around I found is to use the MPEG2-DVD codec.

    Hi again

    Since I’ve got it working here’s the exact settings I’ve used in Adobe Media Encoder to export an MPEG2 at 1280×768:

    Format = MPEG2 (from the drop-down list)

    Preset = Edit Export Settings

    Note: I have unticked “Export Audio” since my settings are for presentation screens.

    Export Settings – “Video” tab:
    Basic Video Settings
    Quality = 5
    TV Standard = PAL
    Frame Width = 1280
    Frame Height = 768
    Frame Rate = 25
    Field Order = None (Progressive)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1,000)
    Profile = Main
    Level = High

    Bitrate Settings
    Bitrate Encoding = CBR
    Bitrate = 12 (Which was the target I had to meet)

    GOP Settings
    M Frames = 3
    N Frames = 12
    Closed GOP every = 0
    Automatic GOP placement = unticked

    Advanced Settings
    Left this untouched.

    Oh and: This creates an .m2v file that you just have to rename to .mpg

    You said that file needs to delivered as .mov
    How did you do that?

    I actually never succeded in delivering as a .mov.
    After talking to the media bureau it was uncovered that the encoding needed to be either mpeg2 or wmv.
    .mov is as far as I’ve understood only a container.
    This means the you can practically have any encoding in a .mov. Only thing is that when you use an Apple .mov encoder you are ensuring that you’re only using compliant codecs in the .mov container.

    As Dave LaRonde points out in the first reply a standard PAL MPEG2 has a resolution of 720×576. I would suspect that Apple adheres strictly to this standard in the Quicktime encoder.

    In case your primary requirement on delivery is that it be .mov then try using the mpeg4 encoder in the quicktime options if you need to compress your end file as this will accept custom resolutions.
    If you have neither size nor codec requirements you could always export as the default .mov (See: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/2/950714 ) and send that to your client.
