  • Render Time Ram Usage?

    Hello,

I’ve asked this about five times and gotten absolutely no answer at all but figured I’d try again. When I render AE barely uses any ram and it takes forever. All my other programs like Photoshop use at least 25% of my 2 gigs but when rendering AE uses like 5%? I have tried all kinds of setting under memory and nothing helps?! Please help me. Any suggestions?!?! This PC should render way faster than this. Don’t know what’s going on? Thanks for any help.

PS. The cpu usage also only goes to 52% at the most. I want AE to use ALL my memory and ALL my cpu! How can I set this?

The only thing I can think of is that the secret preferences are set to a low setting, so there’s little Ram consumption.
Also, make sure you’re not rendering through the openGL driver.

    But those are probably long-shots.

    Maybe trash the prefs ?

Thanks for responding. Where do I go, or how do I get to the secret settings?

Hold shift when you go into the preferences, now you have an extra category named “secret”

Ok cool, then what settings would you suggest changing?

The default settings should be to NOT purge the RTam every few frames.

Don’t know if that would help though, depends on the project.

Any idea as to why the processor is only using 52% at most? Thanks for the suggestions…I’m working on the settings right now and will let you know how it goes. What about my paging file…would that affect anything? Don’t know if I should try re-installing the whole program or what. Thanks so much again.

while AE’s open, press ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the task manager. click on the tab labeled processes, go down to after effects, right click and change the priority to above normal or high. good luck.
