I’ve been rendering and rendering and can’t seem to get the correct result.

I have a 7minute piece shot in HD 1920×1080 60i. I want to render a file which I’ll upload to Youtube. I have tried many renders, one of which resulted in a great quality video with size of 380MB which I can upload to Vimeo. (mp4)

Problem is, I can’t remember which template I used.

Q1: can I determine which template was used?
Q2: Which render template should I use?

“Render as” Sony AVC and use one of the “Internet” settings under Sony AVC which are specifically designed for YouTube-like delivery. You can fine-tune the preferences to match your media and save the new template with a name you can easily recognize.

I put “Render As” in quotes because you really aren’t rendering AVC, you are encoding it. I really wish that Sony hadn’t put the encoding formats in the “Render As” menu.

    Thanks,

    I should be clearer.

I want a very good quality file that I can both use full screen on a monitor (manybe even use as a source to burn a DVD) AND upload to Vimeo.

There really isn’t one ring to rule them all. You need to pick the proper CODEC and profiles for the destination.

If you *really* want to go deep, there is a long discussion of YouTube quality on the Sony website. If you are serious about getting the best possible quality on YouTube, read this: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=4&MessageID=766721
