Render settings and youtube HD
Hi,
I know this comes up a lot but after spending a few hours trying to find the answer and solution, I haven’t had any luck. I can render a video that looks good on my computer but after it’s up on youtube, it’s quality is crap. It is really “blocky”, especially in the dark spots and when the video goes from a bright setting to a dark. I have tried several different settings for rendering before uploading but the same everytime.
Here is what I have it rendering as:
*MainConcept AVC/AAC
*1920×1080
*Profile: High
*Frame Rate: 29.97 (Allow source to adjust frame rate) I have tried both 29.97 and 59.94 (The video was filmed at 59.94)
*Field Order: None (Progressive)
*Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0000
*Reference Frames: 2 – Use deblocking filter enabled
*VBR: Two-Pass enabled
*Max: (Everything from 60,000,000 – 100,000,000, same results)
*Min: (Everything from 32,000,000 – 60,000,000, same results)
*CUDA enabled
*Enable progressive download checkedThese seem like the right settings to me and look good after rendering but terrible on youtube. I hope I can get some tips from the “pros” on here 🙂

If the file looks fine on your PC and doesn’t on YouTube then it seems to me to be a YouTube problem. I know at one point it took a while before they posted the full HD version so you may be looking at the SD version right after the upload but the HD version should happen after that. I use the Internet HD 720p template under MainConcept AVC without any modification and I don’t have any problems with YouTube quality.

Yeah I figured it would probably be a youtube problem. I don’t know exactly where to go for help on that and figured here would be my best bet since most people know how it’s done. I still can not figure it out! I tried the default template and still low quality. With my latest video, it seems to be pretty good except for low light scenarios and ones where there are a lot of different color lights. I wait a while until the HD version pops up and it’s still not what it is on my PC… This makes it frustrating when you have a good quality video but youtube decides otherwise and can’t share it because the quality is below my standards.

This video has been up for over 48 hours so full HD should be processed by now. Notice how pixelated and blocky it looks, it does not look near that bad before the upload. I’ve read this could be a bad install of codecs and to reinstall Vegas Pro? Seems like a bit of a pain but I would hope it’s that easy. You can see details like faces are “blocky”. I have my biggest project I’m hoping to release in the next few weeks and I definitely need to have the best quality upload before it goes live.
This is a frustrating one to figure out!

Well you certainly have a lot of fast action and colors in those videos and that is not good for limited bit rate video. It could be that YouTube just isn’t using a high enough bit rate to accurately represent your video and I don’t know any way to control that.
