I have some Qs re: mpg and mp4. I rendered a project using default settings with:

    a. MPEG-2, DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen
    b. Sony AVC, 854 x 480, 30p
    c. Sony AVC, 1280 x 720, 30p

    Filesize
    a ~= c
    a and c both about 4x larger than b

Q.1 do those sizes look right?

    Image Quality
    a ~= c … although c is bigger, both are sharp
    b is noticably less sharp

Q.2 is this expected? i.e., the YT 480p would be noticeably grainier due to the reduced file size

    Render Time
    a ~= b
    c is about 5x longer

Q.3 is this expected? i.e., a 720p render will take about five times (or more) longer

    Re-Render

I re-rendered the 480p by dropping the 720p into a blank .veg and changing the bitrate from 2,000,000 to 4,000,000

    The resulting mp4:
    d. quality is much improved
    e. filesize is doubled from original 480p version (about 1/2 of a. and c.)
    f. plays on YT
    g. does not YT play on a mobile device

Q.4 is this commonly done? i.e., bumping the bitrate to get better quality
Q.5 is g. a YT restriction, 480p at 4,000,000 bitrate is not playable on a mobile device

    Thanks in advance,
    – Tyson

Your question(s) kind of ramble, but I’ll make it simple for you. Quality and filesize are directly related to bitrate. Higher bitrate = bigger file and better quality.
