You might be rendering it too large for your computer to play back well. Unless you have a $5000 RAID (or whatever), you can’t play back high-quality videos in your computer, because their data rate is just too high for a disk to read quickly. These videos are only for transfer from app to app mid-workflow.

What is the frame size (720×540?), length and data rate of your video?

Which audio format are you working with? And like Steve said, a lot depends on your render and output settings. You’ll need to provide more info before you’ll get the assistance you want.

I am having similar problems and can give you details to my project. I have several MPGs with audio that I imported and edited in AE6.5 on my PC. I have tried rendering the comp out as a .MOV, .AVI and .MPG. I have tried rendering them out at 640×480 and 320×240. I have tried uncompressed and various degrees of compression. The total time of the video is 7:17. I have tried just doing the entire piece as well as about 1 minute’s worth of rendering.

It seems that no matter what combination of reducing the file size or type of composition, I have the same skips in audio at about the same places. But when I play the original MPGs used in AE, they play fine. My final pieces have been from 500Mb to 11Gb in size. I have also taken the one .MOV and brought it into Sorensen Squeeze to convert into a 50Mb MPG, but the skips were the same (I was thinking that perhaps the movie itself didn’t have the skips, it was just the playback).

Please help me if you can.
