  • Render gouraud shading?

Posted by Thomas Hendrikson on May 15, 2017 at 3:23 pm

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to create a render with the colors/lines as they appear in the viewport using the Gouraud shading? I’ve tried the hardware render but that doesn’t do the trick. Doing some experimental animating at the moment and i’m exploring the limits of the software. ☺
    Best,
    Thom

looks identical to me (simple tests – I never hardware render usually) – if it’s different for you perhaps you are not matching the Enhanced OGL in the render settings to the viewport settings – otherwise have to see the scene file.

Hi Brian, I’m including the scene file. So basically I want the render to look exactly like how it is shown in the viewport.

It rendered black initially since the image “model_texture.jpg” wasn’t there but when I substitute another I’m seeing the same thing as before, the viewport and render look identical (even without Enhanced Open GL turned on in the render (Render Settings/Hardware) when Enhanced OGL is on in the Viewport – nothing fancy in reflectance, noises etc. etc. so no surprise)

if you are talking about the axis and horizon lines (rather than lines on the model) perhaps it is the scale of the render (or the scale you are looking at it in the render window), I noticed those lines disappeared if I scale down the render enough to see it all since the render size is relatively large.

    Hi Brian,
Thanks for checking the file and your message however what I meant was something else. The texture I applied to the model looks let’s say blurred in the viewport but when rendering it looks clear and sharp (of course), but since I like the viewport one better I was wondering if there was a possibly to render that version of the image… the ‘blurry’ one.

without the image I don’t know but I’m guessing it’s pretty large to show a lot of detail at that render size, so take a look at your material’s Editor tab there is a Texture Preview size there (probably set to Default) which is the size you are seeing in the viewport (with the accompanying blurriness). To match that you would have to scale down your original texture image to match the default (which is likely 256×256) then it should render like it looks in the viewport

I tried resizing it by right clicking the texture preview and under project settings, that’s what you meant right? Didn’t work! I found out now that if I set Blur Offset to 1% It looks more like it!

no I meant resize the original image to a smaller size then reimport to the material but if you can get the same look with the Blur settings even easier
