Render Freeze frame screws up colours
I am having a really weird problem with my timeline and i can’t figure out why.
I have to add a 10 sec freeze to the end of a commercial, and when i render the video for edit to tape, the freeze gets completely screwed. Its as if a colour solid has been overlaid on the freeeze – i’m getting blues, magentas, and its driving me nuts…i need to get these tapes out today.
I’m using FCP6, osx 10.4.9, Kona 3, 10bit uncompressed SD PAL, Xserve Raid, 4gb Ram.
any ideas?

i have just tried deleting the Render files and re-rendering, and now the problem is worse!!
The huge great colour change happens partway through the final shot, even before the Freeze frame.
If its any help – the final shot comprises several layers -1 video, 1 animation, 1 text, 1 graphic, and 1 motion project file

Sounds ugly.
I don’t know, but here are a few suggestions:
1. Pray.
2. Trying changing your render settings in the video processing tab of the sequence settings.
3. Duplicate your sequence several times and create versions with only one of those final scene elements, then a version with two, then three, etc., turning on filters and layers until the problem reappears. You could even create sequences with only one of the elements in each sequence just to make sure each element is okay. Perhaps its just one of those elements that are causing the pain and you could isolate it this way and work on just that element.
4. I think you mentioned when you go to tape its messed up. What happens by the way if you create a Quicktime Movie of your sequence (Export/Quicktime Movie)? Is the movie messed up or not? If not, can you bring the movie back in to final cut and play it on the timeline crash recording to tape? Capture the tape again and drop into your sequence over that last scene. -
Are your cables loose to your monitor? Do these colors show up in the canvas as well?

certainly not loose cables !! Its a render problem.
In the end i got around the problem by compositing the entire shot in Shake. I reckon there was probably a corrupted file causing the problem.
Time was against me so no way to take the time to experiment.

one further addition –
happened again yesterday. Different project , different material etc. In fact the only thing that was the same as the previous time was that i was using a Motion 3 project file as a graphic (albeit a new graphic, so not exactly the same as before), rather than an animation file with alpha.
Once i had realised the possible cause I rendered a movie and used that instead – lo and behold No more coloured overlays!
The moral of this tale – Motion 3 project files are not necessarily the way to go for overlaid animations!
