render formatting problem LB

What are you project properties? (i.e., which template did you use)

What are the properties of your source footage?

What template are you using for rendering?

What version of Vegas are you using? (when you say the “custom button disappears” do you mean it’s grayed out?)

Oh Ok sorry first time posting!
1. I saved as type: mpeg-2
2. template used was DVD architect NTSC widescreen video stream
3. using vegas 9.0
4. yes, i meant the custom is grayed out

when it finishes rendering, the picture looks chopped on both sides…

OK, I realize you are just starting out and I should have been more specific in my questions. Let’s try again… You originally said:

I tried to render a video and the formatting keeps changing. It looks like its 4:3 but supposed to be 16:9

So I assume you want your output to be 16:9. Let me ask my questions more specifically.

(1) Open the project properties window (Alt+Enter) and tell me which template you are using. You should be using a template that supports 16:9 widescreen.

(2) On the Project Media tab, right-click on one of your video files and select Properties. What does it say for Video Attributes and Pixel Aspect Ratio?

(3) I assume you have Vegas Movie Studio (not Vegas Pro) because the custom button is never gray in Vegas Pro.

What you need to do is make sure that your Project Properties are set to 16:9, that your source footage is 16:9, and that you are rendering to 16:9 (which I know you are because you said you’re using the DVD Architect Widescreen template) and only when those three things are true will your output be 16:9 and not pillarboxed (with black lines on the sides)

No, that’s the render type. The template is the one under that. Which template are you using under MPEG2?
