They are all Mac. So in talking to them and explaining I use Sony Vegas, I asked what file format they would need from me. No clear answer.
Anyone?
No one can answer your question except the people who “own the Mac’s” because they have to ingest the file and lay it down to tape …and they don’t seem to have a clue what they are doing.
If they can’t tell you what codecs they can ingest, how can they do business? I would render out an Uncompressed Quicktime MOV file. That eliminates any codec issues and should work.
If they are using FCP (which I assume they might be) and they are smart enough to figure out how to use the free Sony MXF plug-in for FCP (which it sounds like they might NOT be), you could give them a Sony MFX file using the HD422 1920×1080-60i 50Mbps template. HDCAM uses 3:1:1 color encoding so rendering a 4:2:2 file should be perfect for laying down to HDCAM. (but they might not have a clue what to do with it so I would stick with uncompressed Quicktime on a “huge” hard drive unless they can tell you what Quicktime formats they support.)
