Render Files Disconnecting
Hi there,
I’ve just let my computer run the whole night so I could auto-render six sequences with an approximate total running time of 12 hours. When I woke up, all the rendered sequences were running fine and dandy.
I then started to create a new user in my operating system (10.4.2), i.e. so I could have a user dedicated only to professional work. I also moved over the final cut pro files from the old user’s space to the new user’s space. While doing the transfer, I threw away all the autosave files (I know, a stupid thing to do but I did it assuming that I wouldn’t need them anymore).
Anyhow, once I had the final cut pro file in the new user’s space, I opened it up in FCP, and for some reason, most of the six sequences were unrendered again. I looked in the Render Files folder for the particular project and the actual render files were still present.
For some reason, the connection between the render files (in the Render Files folder of the project) and fcp file has been severed. This has actually happened to me on quite a few occasions, but given that I had to wait so long to have these sequences rendered, I thought I would get to the botom of what’s going on.
Yes, I did save all my work before transferring my files from the old user’s space to the new user’s space, i.e. the transferred fcp file did register that I had rendered all of the six sequences in question.
And yes, I did try reconnecting media but fcp did not give me the option of reconnecting render files. It would only allow me to connect online files though, but that was of no use to me. So there was no way for me to re-establish the connection between the clips in my sequences and the actual render files in the Render Files folder.
Does anyone know why this connection gets cut (since it has happened to me on many occasions) and what would be the potential fix? Is there a way of manually or forcefully re-connecting the render files to the clips?
I’m running FCP HD (4.5) on a Powerbook 17inch, 1.5 GHz, 1.5 Gig RAM, 10.4.2 OS using a 250GB Western Digital hard drive in a firewire enclosure (i.e. that’s where all my media files are located).
