Render a crossfade on a new iMac 27 inch 5K Retina
Hi,
I’m running FCP X 10.2.1. I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27 Inch with 3.2 GHZ Intel Core i5 with 16GB RAM and an AMD Radeon R9 M380 2048 MB Graphics Card.
How come when I put a simple crossfade between 2 clips I still have to render that crossfade?
I tested it on Proxy and Original.
Is there a way or setting where I don’t have to render a crossfade?

Depends entirely on the source footage, MVI suggests this is H.264 from a camera? Yep it’s got to be rendered…

It has to be rendered because you are creating a new composite from existing frames by gradually blending one into the other. If you have background rendering turned on it should get rendered in seconds and you won’t even notice it’s happening. There is nothing for you to do here, Just let background redding perform it’s magic.

Also a fast enough GPU on your system will real time preview those so quickly background or foreground rendering wouldn’t even be necessary.
