  • Removing screen flicker in shot

    Hi,

As a single camera operator I often have to get the camera set up and then move aside to act as interviewer. Normally, all fine, however, on this occasion I failed to notice (or it has been introduced after filming) that behind my subjects the projection screen is flickering away in the background and thus turning what is a lovely interview into a bit of a horror show!

Does anyone know of a filter that could reduce the effect of the screen flicker without affecting the overall film or is there a workaround using keying or matting that may do it?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

    Matt

If the screen is clear (ie nothing is moving over the top) and the shot is locked, then you can replace the moving screen with a still image of the screen. It would be easier to do in Motion using the rotoscope tool.

If something moves in front of the screen, it can be fixed as well but it requires a long session rotoscoping frame by frame.

Yeah I thought as much Michael – no ‘quick fix’ then?? :0)

    Thanks for your advice.

Have you Googled “flicker removal”? There are various plug-ins that purport to do this. I haven’t used them so perhaps others can chime in. But perhaps you can buy a quick fix…
