removing a black background…
Hi there, right, I am a complete noob to photoshop, so please bear with me!
I have an image I found on the internet, so not created within photoshop.
Its made up of various neon lines, which have a shadow effect that fades away so it looks like the neon lines are giving off light.
This fades away on to a black background, however, I need all the neon lines and details of the image to be on a transparent background so i can have it made up to apply onto a van.
I have tried the blending option to remove all black from a picture, but that removes all sorts from the lines and fade also…
Any help would be fantastic as I’m starting to loose hope!

Try creating a second layer with flat colour of maroon or something similar, and place your your original image as the top layer. Apply ‘Screen’ mode to yoru top layer, then switch to the Channels Palette and Ctrl-Click (Cmd-Click on Mac) on any of the channel thumbnails to make a selection. It *might* be that one or a combination of these allows you to copy and paste everything but the black onto a new layer.
HOpe that works but without seeing the image it’s not easy to say.

You can use the photoshop pen tool to select the image area and then just use clipping path technique to get rid of the black background.
