  • remove purple/green fringing with an FCP filter

I use a Canon XH-A1 and I’ve been noticing purple and green chromatic aberration at high contrast borders near the edges of the frame when shooting wide. I’ve been able to remove this almost completely with color correction but this takes forever. I know that this is a trademark of an inexpensive lens, but I would prefer to fix it with a (much cheaper) filter. Does anyone know of a FCP filter that would remove this fringe?

I’m not sure how widespread the fringing problem is, so if this doesn’t exist I have an idea of the principles of one that would work. I just lack the computer expertise to get it working. It needs to use edge detection to separately find the right, left, top, and bottom edges of high contrast borders. Then, depending on where in the frame the edge is located and which side is light and which is dark it needs to apply either a purple or green biased filter to cancel out the fringe. It also needs to not apply the filter to unaffected borders in the center of the frame.

I have no doubt in my mind that this would work since I’ve tried the principles out with success. I just lack the ability to turn it into an intelligent filter. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
