I have an animation going… taking about 20 seconds per frame. Then at one point it drops to 45 mins per frame. The culprit is an object that isn’t even within the camera view at that point in the timeline.

If I hide this object from the renderer the frames go back to about 20 secs. I have tried a composite tag and turned Cast/Recieve shadows and Seen by Rays, GI and even Camera off… and it still slows down the render to a crawl.

To re-iterate… this object is onscreen through most of the animation. Suddenly when it dissappears from camera view it slows down the animation to a ridiculous crawl. If I hide the object when its off… no problem… if I unhide and use the composite tag with everything uncheck it still slows down.

I don’t think it is casting shadows… I don’t have any reflections in any of my textures…. When the Object is actually on screen it renders fine… FOR THE MOST PART… there is about a second and a half where it re-appears and I have the same render problem. That is 45 frames at nearly an hour a frame… completely untenable with a Monday deadline. Also when the camera moves to a different position it seems to alleviate the problem.

    I am on a G5 … Dual 2.7 4 GBs Ram… Running Tiger… 10.4.3.
Any ideas on what might be going on?

    Thanks

    TAK
