November 21, 2013 at 5:27 pmOk The person who edited has stuff all over the place
transcoded to proxy to edit ….. tried consolidating be but all that keeps coming across are Aliases, of course the aliases have to point to something ……..
So i tried just copying the Original Media to see if i can get that to work ….Of course the project is showing “missing proxy” now
I was thinking that i can relink to original media, edit the project to final & lock the project, then re transcode to HQ without having to Copy all the extra unnecessary media ….
then spit out an XML for grading
Switched from FCP 7 so im still learning ….. was going to AVID but my finishing projects are coming in X so…..
Selecting Original media in prefs helped

November 21, 2013 at 9:31 pmAs i was telling my brother, i have no idea how the media was everywhere in this manner when X Forces u organise it but it was …
Lots os Aliases in the “original files” folder How that happened i have no idea. So of course when the copied the events to my system everything came up offline because the aliases could not find what it was pointing to.
But i went to the system the edited on and sorted out the problem. got all the files necessary and just selected use original media and all is well now.
Up and running now comes the hard part

November 22, 2013 at 4:39 amJust to clarify for you, in X, when you import files, you have to option to COPY to the events folder, or not. If you don’t copy to the events folder, it still puts an alias in the events folder which links to the media wherever it is. A great way to save space. But not so good if you simply hand someone the event and project folders, since there isn’t actually any media in there. In your case, it sounds like they imported without copying, like above, which placed an alias in the folder, AND they opted upon import or later, to ALSO transcode to proxy. There doesn’t sound like there was any mess at all. The aliases are normal.
