Relinking media with different names
So I have an interesting dilemma. I’ll try and be short, but concise.
• I’m working with an editor remotely.
• We both have the same cloned drive with C300 footage (MXF files straight from the camera, with camera file structure intact)
• I have the Canon XF plugin installed. so when I imported footage to my event but wanted to keep my footage in it’s folders, FCPX didn’t comply, and moved my media to the event folder. (I’m guessing because it thought it was the camera) In the process it changed the .mxf files to ****** (id).mov files.• My editor, who did NOT have the canon XF plugin installed just imported the files, FCPX didn’t think it was a camera, and left the .mxf files in place.
We didn’t know this until many hours into the edit process.
So now his projects are all pointing to media named ****.mxf. And my projects are all pointing to .movs
He has the XF plugin now, and can reimport all the footage and it will look the same as what I have, but is there a way to save the editing that he’s already done?bryan
(yes, I know we didn’t organize this correctly the first time, but now we know what to look for) =)
