You highlight all the clips associated with the ones in the ALE (from the same batch process) and select file -> Import. In the “options” select Shot Log and click the last radio button – merge based on known sources.” then point to the ALE and click OK (import). It will merge ALE metadata onto the clips.

Thanks Michael, I’m working in 6.5 and when I open up the options box for the “merge based on known sources” I have an option second to last that is merge based on on known sources and create subclips, and then the last one is merge events on known master clips.

To date I have been adding media via the media tool prior to trying to work the ALE since I the ALE I was trying to import in that the DIT had sent me from resolve kept showing up as media offline but now I am worried that I haven’t carried in the proper metadata to match back for the DI. Do you have any thoughts on the above options, if one works better than the other may?

You should be fine. Populating your bin from the Media Tool is one way to do it. Basically it’s the master clip with the following metadata:

    TAPE
    START
    END

Whatever else is there is generated by Media Composer such as codec, frame rate, audio sample, duration, etc. Depending on what is in the TAPE column, that should be enough to go back to the conform.

Have you looked at the ALE file in a text editor? What is in there that you don’t already have? If there is, then you can do a merge.

You do want the last radio button – merge on known sources. this just adds to the existing master clip and doesn’t make new ones. If you want to send a bin with master clips and the ALE (no media needed) to michael(at)24p(dot)com I can take a look at it for you.
