    I use Premiere for conform and something that I haven’t been able to do without making a new project is relink media to graded files, and keep the ungraded sequence in tact.

    My workflow:

    Import XML to Premiere. Check for accuracy.

    Make any adjustments, export XML plus consolidated media out for grade in Baselight.

    Once I receive the graded media back, I’d like to relink to a duplicate of the sequence.

    The problem is, if I make the clips offline, it also knocks the original ungraded clips offline in the bin.

    How can I keep the original and the graded clips in the same project without everything going offline?

    The way I do it now is have two Projects, one for the export, and one for the relink.

    There has to be a better way?

    What about importing the second ungraded project into the graded project. Or vice versa.

    Are you keeping all the media in the existing project folders?

    The problem is that if I make the media “offline” in the sequence, it goes offline in the project.

    It doesn’t seem to matter how or where the footage is stored in the project, it goes offline or gets relinked and the ‘master clips’ get replaced by the graded media.

    It’s not a huge deal, but duping the project just causes more file management than seems necessary. I was hoping I was missing something.

    Sometimes, I get an xml back from Baselight which make it easier, but often times I don’t.

    Hey Jeremy….

    so are you doing a visual match checking for slipped frames?

    An ungraded export reference layer layered into the timeline, might be useful here.

    You can retain all the match clip, and offline everything else and do you check for difference.

    that’s the only thing I can think of off the top of my head.

    The edit is coming from FCPX, and Baselight doesn’t work with FCPXML, at least not yet, so I use Pr to do XML interchange (via XtoCC). Once in Pr, I have to check the timeline for accuracy, retiming, etc.

    It’s a wholly convoluted workflow and I am looking to streamline it.

    I may switch to Resolve as it handles both fcpxml and xml, but it’s kind of weird with audio.
