February 1, 2015 at 5:01 amHello Julian I am a newbie at all this, basically I got a PMW EX1 from a friend and it’s currently on Version 1.02 and I don’t wanna update straight to 1.26 from the Sony website since I hear people have problems when skipping too many versions at once. I definitely can’t afford any repairs if something were to happen but I also can’t find any links to previous versions, can you send me some please? Like maybe I’d do something like 1.02 to 1.05 to 1.11 to 1.13 to 1.20 to 1.25 or 1.26. Mainly because I got a SxS Expresscard adapter for a SDHC card and it doesn’t work, most likely because it’s currently running on 1.02. Please help me if you can, thank you much appreciated. Also I’m currently on a mac but I can get access to a Windows 8 computer but not Windows XP. Think your dropbox links would work on Windows 8? My e mail is ebouhnik@hotmail.com

February 5, 2015 at 3:30 pmHi,
I believe the most recent EX1 Firmware update is 1.30. You can update to 1.30 from any version. I updated successfully a few months ago from 1.13 to 1.30 with no trouble at all. -

February 5, 2015 at 4:03 pmBut I have 1.02 and I heard it’s definitely not a good idea to go from that to 1.30. Very low chance of success from what I’ve read.

February 5, 2015 at 5:09 pmI rang sony and they told me I could update from any version to 1.30. I had 1.13 which I couldn’t update directly to 1.26. I have updated mine and a friends camera with no issues whatsoever. I believe this applies to version 1.30.

February 6, 2015 at 6:31 amGlad it worked and it probably might work well with mine too but it’s just not a risk I can afford to take, since the risk is too high ($2000+ repairs). It definitely sounds tempting though.

February 6, 2015 at 8:20 amHi Eli.
Sorry, I missed your previous message.
I’ve sent you a dropbox link for all the firmwares. It’s interesting to hear about being able to go straight up to v1.30
It always seemed a bit of a “failure” that you had to go through the process of upgrading incrementally.
All the cameras I look after have been upgraded to fairly recent version, so I can’t try it out.Regards,
Julian.

February 8, 2015 at 5:37 pmThank you very much for the dropbox links, just one question, for version 1.13 there is one that says “old version board” what does that mean?

February 8, 2015 at 7:27 pmHi Eli.
To tell you the truth I don’t really know.
I remember having issues upgrading a camera a (long) while ago and the Sony dealer I was going through said there was an earlier version of motherboard, and to try the “old” version of firmware.
If I recall the problem turned out to be something else, so I never needed it.
Every camera I’ve done since then I’ve used the normal version, and I think we have fairly early cameras.
It’s really only on there for completeness.Regards,
Julian.
