Re:Flex – morphing from a masked area in the ‘From’ video to an empty area in the ‘To’ video

My question relate to the orell fuessli morphing billboard video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbeXctJ3MZgHow do you morph between the first lady with a lot of hair to the bald guy? You probably built masks around each face element (nose, mouth, eyes…) of the lady and the guy, but what about the hair? There is nothing to mask on the guy’s head… 🙂
So what do you do in a scenario where in the ‘From’ video you mask something that does not exist in the ‘To’ video?

Looks like her hair gets shorter during the morph transition like it pulled up to the top of the head. The question is whether there is any actual morphing there or if these sections have been manually animated frame by frame, cloning out the hair, or rather, revealing the face.
I suspect such challenging sections have been done frame by frame using two layers of the girl where the bottom one has not hair (clean plate) which morphs to the bold guy, and the hair is on its own layer where it is masked out frame by frame. That is, the hair has been taken out of the morph and handled separately, while the morph happens between a “bold” girl and the bold guy behind it. That would be my guess.

Well what most people would do is warp the hair of one person and to try to make it flat against the bald head of the other. Or , separate out the hair on another level (with matte) and try to warp it smaller, while performing a wipe or dissolve to help with the transition (the wipe or dissolve happening with AE’s tools and other mattes, not with RE:Flex). Or painting it frame-by-frame out of the frame.
Really, when something exists in one image and not in the other, there is not one way to do it. Either try to warp it smaller, or separate it onto another layer with matte (if possible) and try warping it smaller while providing some kind of external transition (wipe or other effect).
