Reel assembly difficulties
Hello,
I’m currently working on a feature in FCP (v6.0.6) and we are having some peculiar issues with assembling. We’re just getting to the point of wanting to view an assembly (the movie has been cut in several different reels/sequences). When we copy the individual sequences into a larger sequence (accomplished by setting in to out in the reel sequence, dragging the sequence from the Browser to the Viewer, then using Overwrite (cmd+F10) to bring the selection into the assembly sequence), we are encountering cases where a sequence is not copying over exactly as it exists in its original sequence. While 99% of the clips stay the same, sometimes audio clips are missing, other times, clip properties have changed–in all cases so far, the change is to the volume levels or the pan. When we look back at the original reel sequence, the audio there is still at the correct volume, pan is where it should be, etc. So far, this has only affected audio, not video. Also, we’ve tried copying/pasting the clips from sequence to sequence, but are encountering the same problems.
It seems to be happening at random, we can’t find any logic to this. Has anyone here ever encountered these kinds of problems? Any idea why it’s happening, and what we could do to get past this issue?
I would be very grateful to hear how other editors construct their assemblies in FCP, and if there is a better way of doing this.
We are working with ProRes 422 HQ video files, and separate WAV audio that has all been combined into Merge clips, i.e. new Master clips.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
