I posted about this last week, then researched some previous posts about corrupted clips. I have now tried to use the Repair Clip option in the P2 menus on the camera, and it’s grayed out (this was recommended by Jan in a previous thread). So does anyone know how to take the MXF files that are on the card and somehow repair them with another utility?…or??? This is a 2.3 gig file created by an overnight interval recording, where the AC power gave out before the clips were finalized.

    Thanks,

You have to “select” the clips before you can repair them. Put the thumbnail cursor on the clip in question, and press the “pause/set” button (the middle button of the navigation buttons). It’ll draw a thin blue outline around the thumbnail, meaning that that clip is now “selected”. Now try the “repair clip” function, it should work.

I was able to select the clip, and then select the Repair command. after doing this, I could see the first frame of the clip in the P2 browser, but FCP still gives a “corrupted clip” error message when I try to import the clip. Any other fixes out there?

    Thanks-

Does the clip play in the camera from the card?

If so, and FCP won’t import it, the next question to ask is: are you using FCP 5.0.4 or 5.1?

Is this a common problem that happens with this camera?

It does not play from the card, I can only see the first frame. I’m on FCP 5.1. Thanks for taking the time to help me figure this out. I had hoped to hear about some magic button from Jan Livingston, but I’m beginning to think there isn’t one.

I don’t know if it’s common or not, but I’ll definitely be doing some more tests with interval recordings before I count on them for anything important. I’m sure it’s not common or we’d be hearing a lot more about it.

[Joe Murray] “It does not play from the card, I can only see the first frame. “

is the camera set to the same recording setup being shown in the lower left of the Thumbnail window?

if there is a red number viewable on the thumbnail file you do not have the camera set properly for playback of the clip. Change the recording set up so that the camera and thumbnail are at the same setting or it will not playback at all.

    No
this is most commonly operator error. If the clip will not playback in the camera the camera is not set to the smae format as the clip you are trying to playback. The record and playback setting must be the same for the camera to play the content back.

I worked on location with 5 4 gig P2 cards and my laptop in italy, shooting about 4 hours of content a day over 10 days I lost only one frame of content- and it was my fault for pulling a card while it was recorded to. I captured nearly 600 gigs of data in that time – all recorded in the 24pN mode and lost one frame.

great tip. Thanks. I can now play the clip from the P2. So the issue is how to get it into Final Cut Pro successfully. I know I could play it out of the component outputs and capture it in FCP, but I’d really like to get it to import properly; I can’t imagine that converting it to analog component is going to maintain the quality of a digital conversion on import.
