    Hey Folks,

    Newbie question…

Trying to import R3D into Premiere and AfterEffects. (5.5 on Mac.) I get this error: “File … cannot be opened, it may be in an unsupported format.”

I have RED importer plugin installed, etc. What am I missing?

    thanks!!

    -Tom

Did you install the RED codec with the installer? You can verify this by looking in Macintosh HD –> Library –> Quicktime. There you will find all your installed codecs. I believe the RED codec has either “RED” or “R3D” in the filename. if you don’t see that amongst the other codecs, go back to RED’s website and look specifically for codecs.

FWIW I’ve been using a lot of RED footage recently, in both Premiere and AE without problem (OS X 10.6). I’m not at that computer right now, but I’m happy to compare setting with you if the above doesn’t fix it.

Thanks Ben. Yeah all the codecs are installed and everything. So I use the media browser in Premiere to navigate to where my red footage is, and all the files pop up with the little RED bullseye icon next to each file name. I double click the file and it tries to open the file, then a “preview in source monitor failure” window comes up, and the error message is “unsopported format or damaged file”. Similar things happen in AE.

You need the RED Epic Importer from Adobe Labs then: https://labs.adobe.com/technologies/redepic_importer/

Best of luck with your 5K project!
