  • Red files won’t hold the trimmer marks/titles

Posted by Joel Clark on July 13, 2009 at 4:11 pm

I am editing RED files and I am going through many hours of footage, trying to MARK in trimmer some key points. In trimmer I press M and then give the appropriate title. I have gone to options – preferences and then clicked “Automatically save trimmer markers and regions with media file” and still whenever I close the project and open it again all my markings are gone. Any ideas?

You need to save them in the Trimmer itself by clicking the Save Markers/Regions icon (looks like a floppy disc).
Having said that, I’m not sure if it will work.
I’ve got two different Red files that I grabbed online somewhere.
One is an MOV and the other is an R3D.
I can save markers in the MOV file but, when I try to do it with the R3D file, I get the message Cannot save markers and regions. Either media is read-only, markers are not supported or media is off-line.
I know for sure that it’s not options 1 or 3 so it looks like markers aren’t supported for Red files 🙁
Hopefully someone else can confirm/deny this.

Thanks. I think you are right, Vegas doesn’t support it yet. Having said that, your answer just brought up another question. I can grab RED mov files and drag them in, but they won’t drag in with audio, only video. You obviously were able to get both?

Sorry Joel but the files I grabbed online were video only.
If you can point me to a site with files with both video & audio, I’d be glad to try it for you.

I’ll see if I can grab one and post it on our ftp site… I can’t seem to find one online either.

thanks for taking the time to help out!

Alright, I can see the R3d files fine, audio and video. But the MOV’s take from the RED files have no audio and for the life of me I can’t seem to figure it out. I posted a mov taken from an r3d file at the link below. If you can figure it out I’d sure appreciate a heads up. Thanks again Mike!

A vast collection of downloadable Red files with everything,
    can be found here:https://www.redrelay.net/…But
unfortunately, the site seems to be temporarily offline.

Joel, I’m downloading it now but, as I don’t have a real high-speed connection, it’ll take about 1/2 hr.
I’ll report back when it’s done and I can play with it.

Joel, can you post a few seconds of an R3D file with video AND audio on it?
As you said, that file had no audio with it.

Mike, I’m looking, but every r3d file I have is minimum a few gigs. If you open the file you just downloaded in quicktime you will hear the audio, but it just won’t pull into Vegas. It must be a codec problem, but I can’t seem to find what codec it might be. still looking for a R3D file that is small enough to post…

    No problem Joel.
As you said, it’s OK in QT player (7.6.2) but not in Vegas.

At this moment in time, all I can suggest is rendering the audio out separately and then bringing it in to a Vegas project along with the MOV file.
