What does it mean when clips suddenly have an icon with a red body in between two black bars rather than an image? I think it has something to do with being the source material because when I double click on he clip in the timeline it doesn’t show in the viewer, even though the same clip shows in the the timeline canvas.

Sounds like the footage is offline. Not sure from your description. This means FCP can’t link the clip to the master footage you captured, or the footage is gone from your media drive. This is either because you moved it – in which case you can re-link it, or because it was deleted (more of a problem, but you can recapture if you captured it with timecode originally via batch capture, and not ‘capture now’).

If it’s showing in the canvas, that’s because you’re viewing a render file you made before the file went offline. If you were to re-render, it would not display.

The odd part is that the sequence was never rendered, and the source has not been moved or deleted. The subject clip is a portion of the source file marked by in an out points.

you can get the “offline media” thumbnail on timeline clips, evevn if theyare online.

it’s caused by corruption in the thumbnail cache.

if you delete your thumbnail cache,
    all the thumbnails should re-draw.

thumbnail cache may be still in the defual location:
Home Filder?Documents?Fimal Cut Pro Documents?THumbnal Cache.

otherwise do a search if you don’t know where you’ve put it.

Not only the thumbnail/icon but when I double click on the segments to open them up the “video” viewer tab does not show any content. BTW, I am not getting any media connection warnings when I open up subject project.

The anomaly was caused by a corrupt index on the source drive.
