RED and EX1 Apple post workflow question
Hey all,
I have a shoot this weekend using both a RED One, using a 35mm lens and a Sony EX1.
We are looking to cut and finish on Final Cut Pro. My questions are around intercutting the different footage in post and a workflow that might be usable.
Our thoughts were to use Pro Res HQ from RED via Clipfinder that will transcode both to 720p (our finishing format).
Does anyone have any much needed advice on a best practice here for this type of thing?
Would appreciate any and all advice,

If you’re finishing at 720P, then using clipfinder to compress the RED footage to ProResHQ will work great. It of course limits you’re color ability if you’re going to use the ProRes files for finishing, so to be on the safe side, when you transfer your RED footage, don’t push the colors too much. If you clip information in your image in this step, the only way to get it back is to go back to the R3D file.
But if you’re mixing EX1 footage, I think your workflow is a pretty good way to go.

Thanks for the timely reply, I just thought Id ask if you have any advice for white balancing the two camera’s.

White balance both cameras on set. That way the RED camera will retain the metadata when you go through clipfinder. From there, if you need to adjust the RED footage more to match, then you can still change the metadata in clipfinder before you render.
I would also suggest having a colorist color your footage. Especially with you using cameras that are as different as the RED ONE and the EX1.
