    Hey everyone!

I am a big fan of Kevin McGloughlin work, and ever since watching his ‘Resynthesis’ and ‘Suite After the Furies’ videos I have been trying to learn how he did such effect with the lights repeating in time. https://vimeo.com/295927650
You can also find more examples in his video for Resynthesis: https://vimeo.com/241546182

I understand that he often records video footage of traffic/other lights, which then utilises to make the effect. First thing that came to mind was using the Echo Time effect inside of AE, but although I get some interesting results, it only works in rapid motion and I can’t seem to get that time freeze of all the lights (as seen multiple times in the video)

I would love to hear what you guys think it might be. Any help is very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

I would have guessed echo as my first guess as well. It could also be just a large number of copies of the same footage, turned into 3D layers and progressively offset in time and z-space, blended with add/screen/lighten.

Trapcode Echospace is also very suited for this. It’s a bit like a cloner object in AE.

Some of the shapes are rather weird looking blobs…So maybe he is taking tracking data from a video with a moving camera and applying it to car lights or other lights found in the scene.
