Recovering sound from file…
I posted earlier in the week regarding VOB’s I recovered from a corrupted disk. With Danny Hays help I was able to restore the 16:9 format.
Problem: Second recovered VOB/MPG does not bring in sound…. voice track is present but flat line. Audio of the file works fine in standard video players. When inserting video from project media to timeline there is no prompt to choose 5.1 surround. File is brought to timeline with MPG extension.
I am again digging too deep when looking for ways around problem. I’m sure it’s something simple that I have never had to deal with in Vegas 8.0.

Hi Danny,
I brought the contents of the original miniDVD to the hard drive – recovered and extracted the VOB’S using ISOBuster. They run fine and with sound in video players. It is only when I bring them into Vegas that they lose all sound.
Sound file is present on the timeline but flatline. No option for 5.1 or 2 channel.
I have tried entering the file to the timeline from explorer and from project media…. still no sound.
I made a new disk, (+RW,) with a duplicate dos tree, (like the original miniDVD,)in an attempt to recover individual tracks of mpg. I renamed the recovered VOB hoping Vegas would import but no, import brings in a empty folder to the hard drive.
My only guess is that the audio file is beyond re: covery. As mentioned above, it delivers both video and sound in a standard player but the audio file is a full 40 seconds shorter than the video on the timeline.
Sorry to take up your time on this matter…. I am to the point of defining the audio portion as corrupt and beyond vegas editing. -
There’s another way. Ever heard of virtual audio cable? You can connect windows media player output to vegas input, play with media player while recording with Vegas. It’s still digital and worth a shot. Here’s a link to a free virtual audio cable. Once installed, it shows up as an audio device. Danny Hays

Hi Danny,
Genius stroke on your part…. I installed virtual audio cable… took me about an hour to study and configure all the components. I ran the file in windows media player and recorded the stereo in audacity. Saved as wav, loaded to the vegas timeline, synched and rendered.
I appreciate the time you spent on this. Without your assistance I would have given up… there seemed to be no way but you, (and VAC,) saved the day.Many thanks,
