Recovering missing footage on P2 card
Posted by Hollin Lange on September 6, 2009 at 1:23 pmSo there is this P2 card that was shot in 720/24pn…There are 6 clips still on it but seem to be missing the first 10 or so. Is there a way to data-mine the card to find the missing clips? What software to use?
HELP?

September 6, 2009 at 2:15 pmWere they deleted? I would never recommended deleting clips from P2 cards.
If the clips are very important, you have 2 options.
1. Reshoot
2. Drivesavers.comSteve Eisen

September 6, 2009 at 5:04 pmI’ll look into the Drive savers.
The clips weren’t deleted, we only got as far as Log and Transfer, but the missing clips are not in the external drive or in FCP…Sooo, who knows?-H

September 7, 2009 at 9:50 pmI once had accidentally deleted a very important clip(from the camera). I spoke with Panasonic Canada and they were so kind to see what they could do for me to recover. Apparently they sent it to Japan and ended up recovering the entire lost clips. I wish i new how they did this, because I tried every program i could purchase on line.
So in my case, it was a success, but i have no idea how they did it.Rob

September 8, 2009 at 3:54 pmNothing was altered, except when the camera was turned off “for some reason” which autoed back to 24p, we were shooting in 24pn…so, “Maybe” the card was reformatted? I don’t know because there were/are still 6 clips on the card but I need those first 10 too of course.

Are you sure they aren’t just showing up as combined spanned clips in FCP? Sometimes the MXF count and FCP count in FCP don’t match due to spanned clips.

September 8, 2009 at 6:59 pmThat was my original thought, but no, instead the “first” clip says Incomplete , so I’m thinking that this is the card that the first 10 are missing from.
I’ll be spending the day tomorrow with Data Rescue II and 5 P2 cards to see what can be found…hopefully everything.
I used D.R.1 once before a few years ago and recovered 27 missing clips for a Lifetime show…so I’ll update with hopefully a success story again.
