Recording to my MacBook Pro from my 5DMkIII using OnLocation?
So I always record direct to my laptop when I’m shooting with my FX1. But I’m working on a new project where we’ll be renting a 5DMkIII. Can I do the same thing?

No. The 5DMIII does not have clean output through HDMI (and HDMI is the only output that camera has). Sorry, but you are not going to be able to do what you are wanting to do.

Rent a Nikon D800 or FS100 instead – that has a clean HDMI out, but it’s uncompressed. What are you transcoding to?

Hey guys, thanks.
I can’t rent the Nikon. My boss borrowed a MkIII to do a demo with and his boss saw that so we have to stick with the same camera here. I’m the only video person here and everybody is very literal, so I can’t switch cameras.
And I won’t be transcoding. I’m editing in Adobe so everything just drops in.
I think working from the cards should be fine. Mostly I was looking for the monitor but I’ve done a reasonable job so far just on the back of the camera. For the next project we do like this I’m going to try to get a whole rig with a monitor and such though.
