I’ve connected the HVX to a Macbook Pro by the 1394 cable. My FCP scratch disk is an external hard drive. I’d like to capture live video from the HVX to the hard drive. I used free run to generate time code but when I go into Log and Capture, hit capture now, it tells me I need to be in VTR mode to record.

Everything I read tells me this can be done. So either my set up is wrong with the HVX, FCP, or both.

    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    Dana

    Set capture device to non-controllable.

    Hello

I am trying to do the same thing, but recording live into a deck (sony HD700 Walkman).

Maybe you need to download first into your local drive and then make a copy into
the external drive. I get drop frames when working directly into an external HD>

    good luck

Dropped frames means drie not fast enough or data througphut

Make sure you use a separate bus (ie a card) for second set of ports… can’t ingest and write at same time (in out over same bus)

    [Jose Alvarez] “sony HD700 Walkman”
This is a HDV deck so unless you have the camera and the deck set to DV25 there is no way of getting it to record a DVCProHD signal.
