Recorded with in the room with shotgun mic from far away
Hi guys,
I had to record dialogue in the room with a shotgun mic, which was placed not very close to the subject, so you can imagine the sound… is there something I can do in the post, in soundtrack or final cut so the voices don’t sound so far away?

Hello Paul and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.
Yours is one of the most often asked questions. The answer is, no, not really. After many attempts, you’ll just make the audio sound bad in a different way.
I tried SPL’s D-verb, https://spl.info/software/microplugs/de-verb.html
It’s more for de-verbing music and has a very small effect on mics placed too far away.

Yeah audio is one of those fix it in production sort of things- if it’s bad there it’s pretty much the same thing as shooting video out of focus. All you can do is do better next time you shoot…

Unfortunately, there is no way around it. You’re stuck with what you’ve got. That…or go with ADR, Foley, etc.
There’s a saying in audio: fix it at the source. You know what not to do for next time…that’s half the battle.

Sorry to add to the swamp of replies, none of which say what you want to hear, but theyre right.
Working in sound is a learning curve, and this is a lesson.Why did you “have” to use a mic so far away?
Couldnt it be boomed in over the top, slung from the ceiling, radio mics concealed in clothing, hair etc etc.
